Photo Beijing 2014 is themed by “Boundless Eyeshot”. The photographic eyeshot refers to the spiritual boundary formed at the recognition of the world through light, which simply reflects our depth of understanding. Such recognitions, whatever to the nature, society or humans, have their own eyeshots.

As is known to all, the core of photography is the cassette. Inside the cassette, we expand our spiritual boundary, while outside it, we recognize the real world. Since people living in different geographic environment, customs and social backdrop have distinctive eyeshot, the intersection of various experience and cultures will generate new “combination of eyeshot”. In image works, eyeshot and the world means the same, while in observation and display behavior, they are two colliding poles. Besides, as carrier of thoughts and dissemination, image requires us to see a whole process based on the cassette. At the preliminary stage, culture shapes the photographer, while at the mid stage, the photographer sets the cassette and at the late stage, image interprets its survival and significance in specific context and culture.

Our understanding of the current world has a bounded and boundless collision and unification. Being a recording tool, a publicizing means and an artistic expression, photography has been turned daily and ordinary, with its initial eyeshot and boundary expanding out and its internal boundary among categories blurred at times. Is photography bounded or boundless? Through profound concern upon the reality, continual practice of the visual thinking, and repetitive reflection of the mind, the boundless photography has been heading forward amidst the challenges of structure and destruction. The definition of genre, school and basics is facing the impact of the image wave.

Photo Beijing 2014 has embodied a great compatibility at the presence of photography of various types, such as the review of works of the International News Photography Competition, themed display of the works collected by the Xinhua News Agency, the theme exhibition of the China Artistic Photography Association and the display of works by presidents of photography associations worldwide. Although such works have different eyeshot and boundaries to extend varying value pursuits, a combination of eyeshot has been achieved in Photo Beijing. The generating process, marginal exploration and their social influence and cultural belonging of such works leave us a considerable lesson. Possibly, it’s the eyeshot of the photography circle, containing the motivation and aspiration to a boundless end.
